For context, TheresNoTime-WMF did link to the page at Talk:Community Wishlist Survey#2023 survey timeline (perma/diff links so MusikAnimal couldn't have known), and I didn't realize you had backtracked on CWS going biennial because of the deletion (and the fact you announced going biennial in Tech News but not the retraction of that decision). The contents of the page is out of scope of user pages. Currently, this nonsense is being displayed from meta to the user's user pages in all other projects. Their user page has already been deleted here twice, but always recreated with some other nonsense contents, so I suggest its protecting from recreation. Note that the user seems to consider Wikimedia projects to be a toy, as he creates similar nonsense pages created across many Wikimedia projects or uploads nonsense files to Commons (see [User talk:Druryhunter36 here]).   • Delete, not a useful page. The idea of a cross project manual of style is not feasible, there are such a variety of different types of projects in so many languages that it would be inappropriate to try to force uniformity. You cannot write a travel guide, an encyclopaedia, a dictionary, a media repository, a database and a news site using the same set of guidelines, what is required in one project would be inappropriate in another.   • Delete. This is just an unattributed copy of W:Wikipedia:Template index, specifically it's this version [1] of the page from 2008. I don't see a good reason for meta to host 15 year old copies of English Wikipedia pages. The contents of this page are simply not useful, it is not reasonable to assume that everyone using mediawiki (or even everyone within the wmf cluster of sites) is going to be looking to structure their project's templates around English wikipedia specific processes, policies and guidelines. 192.76.8.84 19:26, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Demonstration does not appear to be referenced anywhere. Superseded by Special:TrackingCategories (MediaWiki:Noindex-category). I have reviewed the previous discussion and I no longer find even my own argument to keep compeling anymore. Any bot (I offer MABot services) can slowly replace this template with __NOINDEX__ where present over the course of one or two weeks, and get rid of a template with more than half a million transclusions. Category:News 2002 and all “News YYYY”

Categories “News YYYY” (from Category:News 2002 to Category:News 2022) in Category:News look pretty useless. Years categories (e.g. Category:2002) are sufficient, according to me. I ping Verdy p, their author. --Pols12 (talk) 14:04, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

They were categorizing by year, like all other years in the series. Note that there should be other members for each related year. This was done for some years, but the simple Category:2002 for example would contain things not related to (Wikimedia) news but also for other things or events. Many of these categories have multiple pages. But they may also be grouped in "News by year", to avoid overpopulating "Category:News". Over time, the number of pages has increased, and there are subtopic in "Category:News" that are also dated and could have also their members sorted by year. There's been an old project to trace the history of Wikiemdia and make it summarizable and easily searchable. verdy_p (talk) 21:03, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Möller's Law

This "law" has not gained any meaningful traction even within Wikimedia (note no inbound links even on Meta), let alone beyond it. As the person it's attributed to based on a single mailing list post from nearly two decades ago, I prefer not to be associated with it. Chattogram Wikipedia Community

Yes. The main page Wikimedia Bangladesh/Chattogram Wikipedia Community has already been redirected, so there is no reason to keep the other related pages here.     @Pppery I agree that the redirect target is not that useful, that's why I brought up it being deleted too. Most of that page's contents is just lists of poorly explained, questionably useful examples. e.g. about 2/3rds of the page is a list of examples using numbers up to 64 bits long to show that 32 bit errors don't exist anymore, that whole list is just unnecessary and could be nuked. IMO the best result here would be that anything useful from these pages is added to the relevant section at Help:Calculation. 192.76.8.84 19:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

/simple translations

These should ideally be deleted and translations into other languages should be encouraged instead.   • Keep We are not going to be able to translate for every language. There are going to be occasions where someone will have to read the English version.   • Template:Not done / Kept - without prejudice for specific pages being renominated. We now have local language variants working, so pages like /simple /en-ca /en-gb should be falling back to /en - meaning that we should be able to deprecate these if they are not actually localized (in this case, if it isn't actually simpler) - but that will require someone going through them, not deleting only because they exist based on this request. Template:Flex columns and Module:Flex columns

Hi all

This isn't a standard undeletion request, more a request for information on deleted pages. I started a request here for Template:Flex columns to be copied over from English Wikipedia to Meta so I can use them. It seems as though the template was previously created but then deleted on Meta, however this appears to be because it was copied over incorrectly and didn't work, rather than any objection or technical limitation to stop the template existing. Does anyone know if there are any other reason this template shouldn't exist or any technical barriers on Meta that I'm missing? I'm also assuming the best way of copying the template is to simply start again rather than undeleting the broken page and then asking someone to fix it.

Copying templates from other projects is a huge pain, as they almost always rely on a variety of other templates and modules in order to work. On projects where I am an admin, I generally refuse to import for this reason. Unfortunately, until/unless we get universal templates (which could maybe happen because of f: some day), then it will be a huge problem. My personal recommendation is to forgo it entirely, but some admins or importers may be willing to put up with the headahce. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 11:24, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Template:Babel

Hmm, it seems like this used to be an (ugly) wrapper before User:NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh misguidedly broke it by importing from Wikipedia. There's also Template:Diff but the diff in the edit summary does not appear to exist. Aaron Liu (talk) 21:12, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Template:Ping I edited the template on June 22, 2022. All but one current user page transclusions of this template were introduced later to that (old usages were Template:Plainlinks). The only exception is this one which transcludes Template:Tl without providing any arguments. That this template produces nothing but red links is merely the result of it not being used correctly and should not be a basis for deletion. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 05:08, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

If we delete the template and the module, then we need to go and edit all the pages that we've broken, which is pointless.   • @Billinghurst Sorry for the late reply, it looked like it was for a separate section.Template:PbI don't see how the template and the module leverage the Babel extension; there are no references to the parser function, the extension does not provide anything else, and the module seems to quite standard-ly transclude the template User langcode dash number; all of the latter for natural languages were deleted when the extension was introduced. Thus, most pages using the template look like this, a box of redlinks. If anything, deleting this and migrating to the extension would unbreak pages and reduce confusion.
