視覚障害者や画像を見ることのできない読者へ提示される、PNG画像のalt textは、文字が、選択やコピーされるときにも使用されます。wikitextが生成した<math>や</math>を除く画像へは適用されません。これはmath要素に対して、明示的にalt属性を指定することよって上書きすることができます。たとえば、<math alt="Square root of pi">\sqrt{\pi}</math>はalt textが"Square root of pi"である$\sqrt{\pi }$のような画像を生成します。
